 Mieczysław Karłowicz (1876-1909)
 Karłowicz's Stone
This page presents the last itinerary of Mieczysław Karłowicz, a great Polish composer, who perished in an avalanche in 1909. Passionately fond of the Tatra Mountains and photography, on Monday 8th February 1909 Karłowicz left the villa "Lutnia" at Zakopane for a solitary trip in the mountains. After having passed by Kuźnice and Skupniowy Upłaz and a short rest in the shelter on Hala Gąsienicowa, he headed towards Czarny Staw which he never reached, buried in an avalanche that hit from the slope of Mały Kościelec. The place of his death was marked by a memorial stone.       ZOOM: move the cursor over the image on the right.
